Uniden’s GMR3689-2CK waterproof radios are lightweight, palm-sized radios packing a 36-mile range, 22 channels plus 142 privacy and 143 group codes, advanced features like direct and group calling with ID, and all the basics. They’re also completely waterproof, to JIS7 standards, making them the perfect choice for sporting events, staying in contact with family and friends, hiking, skiing, or nearly any activity where communication is vital.
These products meet the tough JIS7 water intrusion test in which the product is submerged at a depth of 3 feet for 30 minutes. Each unit is factory tested to ensure it meets this specification, so you know your radio will be airtight. Take it anywhere–the brilliant yellow color is another added bonus, helping make sure you don’t lose it in the leaves, dirt, or on the lake (a carabiner loop lets you easily attach it to your backpack, belt, or wherever else, to help avoid this).
These radios provide 22 channels (7 FRS and 15 GMRS Channels) plus 142 privacy codes and 143 group codes per channel, to help reduce interference from other users. That’s 6,270 channel combinations, and a multitude of options for keeping your group together.
The maximum allowed power gives you the best range performance as well, with up to 36 miles of communication range (as with any two-way radio, the less obstructions present, the more range you’ll achieve).
The GMR3689 lets you use Group and Direct Call features, to call only individuals in a specified group or call a single person without the others in your group hearing it, for more nuanced communication. The radio name assignment lets you provide a “caller ID” when you transmit.
GMR3689-2CK has weather alert and receives emergency weather broadcasts from the NOAA National Weather Service. When the radio is in the emergency weather mode, the system monitors the selected emergency weather channel for alerts when not communicating.
These radios are powered by included NiMH battery packs. The included charging kit keeps your radio ready for action, and a battery strength meter lets you know when it’s time to charge them back up. Add Uniden’s DC-1002 adapter for easy charging in your vehicle.
Note that the GMR2838-2CK radios operate on the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) frequencies, which require a Federal Communications Commission License to operate. For licensing information and application forms call (800) 418-3676 or (888) 225- 5322. No license is required for operating FRS channels 8-14 or any channel in Canada.
To promote a cleaner environment, this product was manufactured in accordance with the RoHS standard, which limits the use of substances such as lead, mercury and cadmium. The minimized packaging is also 100 percent recyclable, and printed with non-toxic inks.
