The MR355R, under ideal conditions, gives you a range of up to 35 miles. Conditions vary with geography and other variables.
22 Channels With 8 Repeater Channels
Starting with the same 22 channels as the MR350, the MR355R adds 8 built-in repeater channels, which can work with a local repeater station to carry your signal further. Take advantage of this value-added feature by switching to GMRS channels 15R-22R, but don’t forget you’ll need a GMRS license and an accessible repeater station to take advantage.
Emergency Alert Button
When the alert button is activated, the radio transmits an alert siren followed by transmission of spoken or incidental sounds. This allows you to send the signal to other radios and warn of impending danger.
Keypad Lock
Lock your keypad to avoid accidentally changing your radio settings.
Channel Scan
Use scan to search the 22 channels for transmissions from unknown parties, to find someone in your group who has accidentally changed channels, or to quickly find unused channels for your own use.

A call tone and roger beep helps you know when transmissions to and from someone are beginning or ending. The GMR1635-2 features both, and you can turn the roger beep off if you’d prefer.
Easily Reduce Interference
The GMR1635-2 is equipped with an automatic squelch system, which shuts off weak transmissions and unwanted noise caused by terrain conditions or reaching your your range limit.
AAA Battery Power With Automatic Power Save
GMR1635-2 radios are powered by three AAA batteries, and features a unique circuit designed to dramatically extend battery life. If there are neither transmissions nor incoming calls for 2 seconds, the radio switches to Power Save mode. The radio is still able to receive transmissions in this mode.
In addition, the radio features a battery strength meter, to show you when it’s time to charge.
Wide 16-Mile Range
Use the radios when camping, hiking, hunting, or even for keeping in contact with another person in town. The GMR1635-2 radios offer plenty of options with a range of up to 16 miles. (As with all GMRS radios, you’ll get more range in open terrain than in areas with many high buildings.)
Finding Channels
The GMR1635-2 radio boasts a channel scan feature that lets you easily scan all 22 channels (15 GMRS, 7 FRS). When an active channel is detected, the unit pauses on that channel until the channel is clear. After a two-second delay, the radio will continute scanning. Pressing the PTT (aka Push to Transmit) button while the scan is paused on a channel will allow you to transmit on that channel.

Note that the GMR1635-2 radios operate on the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) frequencies, which require a Federal Communications Commission License to operate. For licensing information and application forms call (800) 418-3676 or (888) 225- 5322. No license is required for operating FRS channels 8-14 or any channel in Canada.

The GXT795VP4 features the standard 22 GMRS Channels with an extra 20 Channels and a range of up to 36 Miles. The Weather Scan feature finds the nearest NOAA broadcast to stay up to date with the latest weather and hazard information. In addition to important weather announcements, All Hazards Alert means the GXT795VP4 will receive other emergency announcements such as Child Abduction (Amber Alert), Nuclear Power Plant warnings, Biological Hazard, Fire, and Landslide Warnings. The GXT795VP4 features a Vibrating Alert for silent notification, 142 Privacy Codes, 5 Level E Vox for Hands Free operation, Scan of the 42 Channels, Hi/Med/Low Power Settings, 10 Call Alerts with an additional 5 Animal Call Alerts, Keypad Lock, and Battery Save Circuit. Unlike other GMRS radios on the market that use lithium batteries, Midland’s Dual Power Option allows the use of the included rechargeable batteries or 4 “AA” batteries (Not included).
